What's the difference between plastic and nylon
May 22,2024

Nylon and plastic are both synthetic materials, but there are some key differences between them. Nylon is often used in gears, bushings and plastic bearings because of its low coefficient of friction. It is also widely used in clothing, reinforcement of rubber materials (such as tires), ropes, and plastic parts on vehicles and mechanical equipment. Plastics, by contrast, are a broader category that includes multiple materials such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and so on, each with its own specific application area.
Nylon (PA) is usually more expensive than ordinary plastics (such as PP).
From the point of view of environmental protection, nylon cloth bags compared to plastic bags, the material can be degraded in the natural environment, so it is a more environmentally friendly choice.
Nylon and plastic can be very similar in appearance, leading many people to mistake them for the same substance. However, they differ in physical and chemical properties such as strength, heat resistance, flexibility, etc.
Nylon has high wear and impact resistance, while some plastics may be lighter or less costly.
To sum up, although both nylon and plastics are synthetic materials, nylon plays an important role in engineering and industrial applications because of its unique properties, while plastics are widely used in various fields because of their diversity.
